Empire of the Sun

Last night I saw Empire of the Sun at the music box at the Henry Fonda theater, Hollywood.

Incredible.

Being the first wave of their first American tour I figured the band would be either one of two things; amazing or a huge let down. We’ve all be there before, you listen to a great album but when you see the group live, they cannot keep up, vocals fall short of expectation etc.

Empire of the Sun came onto stage in full theatrical costuming, backed up with four dancers and a LED screen that must have been at least 40ft X 20ft. Everything was played probably at double time with a physical drummer (in costume). Front man Luke Steele made costume change at every track or nearly every track, never slowed his energy level and never let his vocals fall short of expectation.

My only regret was that I wasn’t on super drugs of some kind. See them live at all costs!
